OUR IMPACT

The world’s greatest scientists working on climate and conservation solutions are often limited by access to data, funding and partnerships that could accelerate their impact. Adventure Scientists solves this problem by designing, building, and executing projects that ensure partner scientists have access to the data they need to drive their research and develop the solutions that will save our planet. Our partnerships have yielded groundbreaking environmental discoveries, aided accountability across supply chains, and catalyzed initiatives that will positively impact the planet for generations.

We vet each of our projects for three key elements.

1.

The project must address an environmental or human health issue to which unlocking a solution has previously been data-limited.

2.

There must be a clear pathway from data collection to lasting impact.

3.

There must be a clear need for the outdoor community.

Explore some of the results of our data collection projects:

ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE

We collected animal scat samples from around the world which were used to isolate the genes responsible for antibiotic resistance in enterococci bacteria from thousands to less than 50. If left unchecked, MDR infections are projected to kill 10M people annually by 2050. Learn more.

ILLEGAL DEFORESTATION

We gathered genetic and chemical samples to improve traceability of timber species, origin, and legality.  Estimates of illegal timber harvests are as high as $157B per year, putting it on par with the global heroin trade. Learn more.

WILDLIFE CONNECTIVITY

With more than 1,000,000 animals dying on U.S. roads every day, we identified hotspots of wildlife-vehicle collisions to inform the strategic placement of overpasses, underpasses, and other essential mitigation infrastructure.

THREATENED SPECIES

Our wildlife tracking projects have  increased protections for imperiled wildlife, attracted funding for restoration and conservation efforts, and helped restore species to their historic ranges. Learn more.

AGRICULTURE

Our volunteers collected samples from the highest known plant life on Earth. Living symbiotically with the moss found at nearly 22,000 feet were fungi and bacteria that are being used to increase crop yield across millions of acres, including on more than 300 small farms in India. Learn more.

MICROPLASTICS

We collected the largest dataset on Earth concerning microplastics, which is informing policy, research, and education at more than 200 governments, NGOs, educational and businesses institutions around the world. Learn more.
